Exhibit for the prosecution

“A Venezuelan opposition figure who was received by US President George Bush is to go on trial with three colleagues, accused of conspiring to change the government using US funds”, reports al-Jazeera.

The opposition group, Sumate, received funds from the US-backed National Endowment for Democracy (NED), alleged as a CIA front by Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. NED claims to be “supporting freedom around the world”, but Source Watch reveals the true agenda of the organisation. Critics charge the NED only “supports candidates with strong ties to the military and who support the rights of US corporations to invest in those countries. They claim that the NED does not support candidates who oppose investments by US corporations or who promise restrictions on investment rights of US corporations.”

Yet another example of the Bush doctrine in action.
