Wishful thinking

An intriguing interview with New York Times Executive Editor, Bill Keller. He refuses to discuss the ongoing Judith Miller saga but looks at paying for news content and the blogging “threat”:

“‘I’m confident [Yahoo! and Google] will not be the next generation of press barons,’ he said. ‘Yahoo! could buy 1,200 journalists tomorrow,’ a figure which roughly compares to those employed by the Times. But, he added, ‘to them, it’s a boutique’ business.”

He offers an optimistic prediction of newspapers in 20 years. Not sure I share his radiant optimism, but then, he is talking to Business Week.
