The result? The global superpower is destined for disaster. Even the New York Times is worried:
“After President Bush’s disastrous visit to Latin America, it’s unnerving to realize that his presidency still has more than three years to run. An administration with no agenda and no competence would be hard enough to live with on the domestic front. But the rest of the world simply can’t afford an American government this bad for that long.”
Hatred of American policies has never been higher. Bush can barely travel anywhere without massive protests.
There must be some poetic justice somewhere.
“The abuse of the Australian people and the use of our fears as playthings for his political advantage continued today, when Howard called a press conference to say nothing in particular about the overnight raids, in which a man was shot, but which ensured his face appears as part of TV news packages on the story tonight. His political timing again strangely perfectly tuned to his police arm’s actions, Howard smiled throughout, including when he asserted, in the face of mountains of evidence during his reign, that
Australia’s Commonwealth law enforcement agencies – the ones he’s stacked at the top with yes men and favourites – acted independently of the Government. Chilling.”
We should be alert and bloody alarmed.
