Jewish identity rests on Israel alone, according to Israeli writer A.B.Yehoshua. Unsurprisingly, US Zionists are outraged by the comments, demanding credit for funding, insulating and defending Israel in the Diaspora.
The Israeli writer clearly wants to ignore the vast amount of annual US financial and military aid to the Jewish state, without which the country would struggle.
Suffice to say, Yehoshua’s comments underline the insecurity within the Jewish Diaspora. What does it mean to be a “good Jew”? In my view, any religious group that blindly defends its homeland is very sick, indeed.
