Why should the Iraqis ever forgive us?
Brutality and corruption are rampant in Iraq’s police force, with abuses including the rape of female prisoners, the release of terrorism suspects in exchange for bribes, assassinations of police officers and participation in insurgent bombings, according to confidential Iraqi government documents detailing more than 400 police corruption investigations.
Amidst all the carnage, Iraqi blogger Baghdad Connect explains the cynicism always displayed by the West towards the Arab world.
Why shold they forgive us, when the intervention is being justified soley on the basis that what we are offering is nothing more than somethign a little better than Saddam Hussein was? Then again, it looks like we’ve even failed in delivering on that apthetic expectation.
