Witness a Fox News crew come under fire from Israeli troops last week (Norman Finkelstein provides commentary).
David Lee Miller: “In all likelihood that was probably Israeli fire, we were very very close to their position…”
What the Israelis have essentially done is cut Gaza in half… All traffic has stopped in this one location… This is central Gaza…the area is deserted. The Palestinians know not to go any further, there are barriers set up. We went as close as we felt we could to illustrate what was taking place here without endangering ourselves “
Dumb: “I just don’t understand, it says PRESS, it’s the color, it’s international…”
& Dumber: “Bad guys shoot at anything!”
Dumb: “Right, but it’s Israel?!”
Dumbette: “Eeeh, but…it’s also…if…if…correct, we don’t know who exactly was shooting at ‘em…”
Perhaps that will teach the Murdoch press to treat the Israelis with a little more scepticism. I’m not holding my breath.
Surely not. Those were Hezbollah bullets that were shot at you.
Antony,
If you watched the whole video clip you should have noticed that David Lee Miller says he doesn’t know for certain who shot at him. Miller also says that if Israeli forces shot at him they were probably simply trying to warn him off. That makes your take on this incident much ado about nothing, does it not?
Well if they did get shot I’m sure the IDF would investigate it and find that it truly wasn’t them. Maybe the IDF had them mistaken for journalists and made a pre-emptive strike against objestivity?
Miller and his crew and their vehicle were stationary in the open. If the IDF wanted to take them out, they would have.
nell thats ridiculous, if you watch the video you’ll see that the camera has to zoom a long way to be able to make out the israeli tanks etc,
meaning you’d need a bloody good sniper on the spot with his special gun to ‘take them out’ as you put it,
possible yes,
but not as textbook as you make it sound,
and why would a palestinian with a rifle draw attention to his position by wasting shots at the press and increasing the chances of getting caught by the israelis,
and were they warning him off like that british camera man that got permanently arned off a few months ago
Whoever shot at Miller did not draw attention to his position; Miller says he doesn’t know for certain where the fire came from.
The effective range of the M16s used by the IDF is 400 metres. Surely, if they were trying to hit Miller they would have fired multiple rounds, at least hitting Miller’s vehicle. If the IDF fired in Miller’s general direction it was to warn him to go away.
Why would they use a gun that is only good for 400m?
Oh but why are we arguing, the IDF are noble , it’s ludicrous to even contemplate
There is nothing to argue. Antony falesly claims Miller came “under fire from Israeli troops.” The nobility – or otherwise – of Israeli forces does not enter into it; it’s a matter of accuracy.
