Israel is a country, a state. It contains people of varying faiths and opinions. Israel and its policies are not representative of every Jew worldwide.

Noone who is decent would deny Israel's right to defend herself. Everytime the issue of cessation of violence arises someone begins a debate about who did what to whom when and why. I think experiences in Ireland, South Africa etc show that these discussions are useful only AFTER the killing has stopped . It is simply a diversionary tactic at this point. There is no "greater context", Captain- you speak of the islamic states as if they were homogeneous- there are hundreds of contexts surrounding Israel. Do you not think that Israel itself suffers from the failure to reach a just settlement with the Palestinians? Does it not play on your mind at all that the occupation is illegal, that the "security barrier" is illegal- that the number of Palestinian civilians killed in the last few years is in the thousands. How do any of these things help to secure Israel? ( since that is your focus- I am assuming that you find the plight of the Palestinians just as horrific as we all do, but that to you, the security of Israel is of greater importance)
