The Miao people of Basha are located in China’s southeast Guizhou province. They number just over 2100 people at present and following 1949, they were the only ethnic minority officially allowed to preserve their gun-carrying tradition. They have been called “China’s last gunman tribe”.

There are more Miao than New Zealanders – about 10 million spread across SE Asia where they are also known as Hmong in countries like Vietnam and Thailand.
I presume this blog is referring to the Miao in one particular village. As for the claim that they are the last gun toting tribe, well just look at this Pumi tribesman I saw in Sichuan a while back. They all carry flintlock rifles copied from the British.
