Phil Weiss is, in my humble opinion, one of America’s most astute Jewish commentators on Israel/Palestine. His blog, Mondoweiss, is essential reading.
During my recent trip to New York, I spent time with Weiss in his beautiful home and we talked for hours about Jews questioning Israel and the ways in which we both believe it is our duty to condemn brutality, especially if perpetuated by Jews. Zionism has become an ideology that seems to thrive on occupation and corruption.
He has written a very generous blog post about our time together. As he notes, there are a growing number of Jews who are standing up to decades-old rhetoric and questioning the basic tenets of both the religion and its unhealthy obsession with Israel.
