Talking past power

How the internet is finally changing the face of Italian society (and we can thank Prime Minister Silvio Berluscon).

(While the vast majority of Egyptian web users allegedly support the idea of government net censorship.)

    Hi Antony,

I’m Italian and follow you since a few months. As I’m studying the ‘political power’ of blogging, I’m really interested in your work and generally agree with your positions.

However, this time I must disagree: we, as Italians, do not need to thank Berlusconi for anything related to freedom of expression. Early this year his company - I don’t recall which branch/one (maybe Mediaset or Fininvest) - SUED youtube because it allowed Italian users to post material from his TV shows/programs. He’s famous in Italy for the so-called “Bulgarian Edict” by virtue of which three journalists were banned from television.

I hope your comment was ironic, as Berlusconi is far from being an advocate of freedom of expression - on and offline.

Sorry, but I had to say it.
    Bye, Melonauta
