Gawenda is a professional disingenuist. There are lots of them. Lapkin's another and Gawenda gave him op-ed space in the Age, where he still gets the opportunity to marginalise his millennial enemies without right of reply.

Miller was a senior member of the War Party, Media Division, and Gawenda somewhat lower down that greasy pole. He has been far more circumspect of late, but can't help revealing where his heart lies.

He reckons the Times' editors failed to do their job. I wonder if he has asked himself whether he'd have stopped her. I think it highly unlikely from Joe Gutnick's hagiographer, from the bloke who killed Leunig's Palestine prison camp cartoon, the fellow who thinks Condi Rice is 'impressive'.

To him she's a scapegoat, a tired talking point already. She was a propagandist; she was part of the administration's PR dept and apparently an habitue of those peculiarly American institutions, the right wing think tanks that killing loads of Muslims is a small price to pay for implementing 'A Clean Break' and Oded Yinon's small states philosophy.

With the happy confluence of Big Oil, Big Contracting and Big Religion to buffer and obscure the role of Eretz Israel in the commission of this war, they thought they were home and hosed and indeed they got the first part of the equation, the war (with bonus dead Muslims).

But the second may prove rather harder as Americans catch up to the rest of the world in understanding what has happened to their country and who is responsible for it.

I'd be a bit antsy about that if I was on board. All American nicknames like 'Scooter' won't do the job for much longer.

Gawenda is eitehr naive of as you say, disingenuouos. Miller'
s role in the lead up to the war has given a bad taste to the profesionb of journalism. She took embedded reporting to the lowest level. He attempt portray herself as upholding the purity of her beliefs is pertty sad, seeing as whe played second fiddle inthe echo chamber that led to the war.
