A classic piece of mainstream media distortion on Venezuela’s leader Hugo Chavez. Witness the agendas served by distorting the revolutionary shifts occurring in Latin America. Perhaps the US state department is writing the script.
Let’s hope the West remains afraid.

And coincidentally, the US is conducting naval excercises off the coast of Venezuela.
This is an intersting article that puts things is perspective and reveals why the US state Deprtment is drumming up such hysteria.

There are many in the West who are afraid, including me.
But the problem is, those who are holding the reins of power want nothing to change. They are profiting from the status quo, making billions of dollars out of war, imperialism, stirring religious hatred, etc.
The Media Magnates are in on the act, spreading disinformation and pro-capitalist, right-wing propaganda. Anyone who tries to buck the capitalist system, tries to put in place socialist ideals is a revolutionary, part of the axis-of-evil.
The world is in crisis but too few people seem to care. Democracy has failed. We need a revolution similar to the one in France. We need to get rid of the Kings of Capitalism.
The time has come!

How abtou commenting on whether he was right or wrong. It’s not obligatory to flame the messenger.
This Channel 4 story is complete garbage.
The thing about Chavez, is that his critics make charges against him that are almost entirely based on hysteria, but factually unsubstantiated. As Pilger points out, Venezuela’s media is the most free from government influence and he has won more elections than any other leader.
The coup in 2003 was overthrown by the common people of Venezuela, not the military. it was backed by the US State Department. It’s people like Rice who are the extremists and depots. The US overthrew Aristide, another democratic leader in 2004. So whiel democracy may not be dead, it does come a distant second to US interests.
As Pilger points out, Maria Corina Machado, the “civil rights activist” interviewed was herself involved in the coup and she is facing the possibility of 2 years in jail The worst she could say was that “if this trend continues” Venezuela COULD stop being a democracy. US citizens are saying far worse things about the US. Can anyone imagine what would happen to any US citizen right now if they were to be involved in a coup against teh Bush Administration? They would spent 2 years in jail just awaiting a trial.
Who are those that are apparently leaving Venezuela? Why the elite of course, those who have always lived on the back of the poor people.
The only people “afraid” of Chavez are the US oil companies and their shills.
