An alliance of violence

Dahr Jamail, Truthout, March 29:

A disturbing trend noticeable in Iraq for quite some time now is that each aggressive Israeli military operation in the occupied territories results in a corresponding increase in the number of attacks on US forces in Iraq. One of the first instances of this was the assassination of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in March 2004 and the reaction it set off across Shia and Sunni, ultimately spiralling into the siege and devastation of Fallujah. Fallujah is but one example one may use to demonstrate how the ongoing use of heavy handed tactics by the US-Israel alliance is proving to be as suicidal as it is homicidal. US troops in Iraq and Israeli civilians in their homes can bear testimony to this, as they are the ones who bear the brunt. Not to mention the collateral damage in Iraq.

JILL IS SAFE THANK GOD!!! You may already know, but she was released!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check the post on the olivebranch network: http://olivebranchoptimism.net

I can’t wait to read the stories from her PERSONAL friends (Baghdad Treasure and 24steps) on the Olivebranch Network I am so excited WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JILL IS FREEEEEEEEEE

  2. 2 Chris

    That is good news.

On the other hand, Dahr Jamail ridiculous assertion that anything happening in Israel is directly reflected by Arabs killing each other in Iraq or greater intensity in Iraqi attacks on US forces is absurd.

  3. 3 Addamo

Why should it be rediculous Chris? Jamail is simply observing a trend, not putting forward a theory.

Jamail is one fo the few independent and unembedded reporters in Iraq. He is a MUCh better position to know what’s going on that you. Needless to say, I am sure you will assert that he has no cerdibility or that his reports are of no relevance.

  4. 4 Chris

If it is not a theory, then there is nothing disturbing about the observation of a totally unrelated event occurance. One such is the amount of carrots eaten by accident victims as opposed to those who have had no accidents.

The statement that it is disturbing is to lead it into a theory. He is not in any position to observe anything better than I except anecdotal information.

Needless to say, I am sure you no credibility or relevance. I have no idea about Jamail.

  5. 5 Addamo

If it is not a theory, then there is nothing disturbing about the observation of a totally unrelated event occurance.

Jamail is not making a one of observation. He is observing a trend. You analogy is rediculous.

He is not in any position to observe anything better than I except anecdotal information.

On th econtrary, he is in Iraq and ver well connecte to current events. He has sfirst had informtion abotu what is taking place insiode Iraq. There is nothign anecdotal about an observble trend.

  6. 6 Chris

If there is not a theory involved, then he can notice a trend between ant migration in the Sudan with the movement in the stock market. Totally unrelated events. So too are the events in israel as compared to the events in Iraq.

Again, your comments have no credibility or relevance.

  7. 7 Addamo

If there is not a theory involved, then he can notice a trend between ant migration in the Sudan with the movement in the stock market.

You are being deliberately evasive on this matter. It is no revelation that Arab hostility in the ME has been linked to Israeli aggression. What Jamail is observing may be coincidental, but it is worth exploring. To dismiss it outright eitehr suggestes that you have evidence that contrdicts hsi concusion or that you just refuse to accpet it.

    Imagine our surprise!!

Again, your comments have no credibility or relevance.

Neither do yours, that why they are called opinions.

  8. 8 Chris

Then there is a theory. But the theory is so much cotton candy; Much fluff, little substance.

But you stated he had no theory, therefore he has no conclution. Unles, as always, your irrelevant comments have lent an ear of non-credibility to poor Jamail.

You haven’t given an opinion, just dislinked babble.

  9. 9 Addamo

    No. read it again:

A disturbing trend noticeable in Iraq for quite some time now is that each aggressive Israeli military operation in the occupied territories results in a corresponding increase in the number of attacks on US forces in Iraq.

A trend is a trend. It is an observable phenomaneaa and does not require a theory to be recognised. His conclusion is based on hiw observtion and does itself not requrie a theory to be valid.

since you have failed to prove that Jamail’s observation is incorrect or baseless, then so is your argument. Your dismissal is based on pure emotin and sentiment. In other words, you have just presented a littany of babble.

  10. 10 Chris

    More psychobabble from Addamo.

There is no need to prove anything about Jamail if there is no theary involved. Once there is a theory, there is a conclusion. It can then be proven or unproven.

As Jamail has provided no information in support of any trend, there is nothing to work with.

    Much like Addamo’s thoughts.

  11. 11 Addamo

I can see how logic from someone with an education would seem like psychobabble to you.

There is a treand which you have disputed but failed to counter. The trend stands as valid until you explain otherwise, which you wont.

As Jamail has provided no information in support of any trend, there is nothing to work with.

it’s true tjhat he has not provided the data, but then neither have you. Tehre is no doubt your argument is purely subjective and irrational,. as they always are.

  12. 12 Chris

As Jamail has not provided a shred of evidence, and you already support his conclution to a theory that he has not proposed, it is certain that those with an education will accuse you of being a psychobabbler.

  13. 13 Addamo

I do nto support hsi conlcusion, as I too have seen no evidence of it. I accept that whathe has observed is a “trend” and that rthe trend is quite possible given the effect the Arab Israeli conflict has had in the region.

  14. 14 Chris

He has not correlated any observations so there is no trend to support.

  15. 15 Ros

The guy is a columnist for the truth Seeker for heavens sake, along with for example Israel Shamir whose latest work is a “cabbalistic explanation of connection between the War in the Middle east, Globalisation, Fall of Dollar and Rise of the Jews”. Jamail is just a bit more subtle.

  17. 17 Addamo

    Ros,

You couldn’t be more mistaken. Jamail is an independent with his own blog. That Jamail’s reports appears on a web site does not mean he works for then or writes for them. Ever hear of sindication? Apparently not.

Also, your facts are completely wrong also. The link is to http://www.truthoout.org not http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/. Truthout simply link to existing news items and commentaries as they appear around the world.

Th Zacarias Moussaoui confession has been given veruy little attentino becasue it came all too conveniently just after the Us blew their case against him. As soem observers pointed out, it sounded like a confession penned by the State Department.

It is not beyond Antony to use information from sources that question the holocaust from a non-scholastic viewpoint.

    What sources are they Chris?

  18. 18 Chris

I’m shocked at your display of ignorance. Such sources have been told to you several times. This is not to say that Antonyn actually used them as a source. But it is not beyond him to use such.

  19. 19 Addamo

Shocked? Come on Chris. Cut the feinged outrage. You are full of shit and you know it.

Anyway, if it’s so easy, why not provide links to these sources again?

PS. That I disagree wit you does not make me ignorant, but if you feel the need to use th wor out of context, by all means oh great watcher of boats.

  20. 20 Chris

Coming from a fellow who routinely posts such, it is not surprising.

Yes, the surprise at another example of your ignorance was faked. No one on this blog can be surprised at your ignorance. You prove it over and over again.

If ypou wish to seek out holocaust denial sites, I will not assist you.

In other words, you ARE full of shit. Thansk for confirming it for the umpteenth time.

  22. 22 Chris

Obviously there is no need to refute insults.

  23. 23 Chris

Here are the two deadliest attacks in march and april 2004:

On April 21, five suicide bombings near police stations and police academy in southern city of Basra killed 74 people and wound 160 others. A co-ordinated attack on Shiite Muslim shrines in Karbala and Baghdad on March 2 killed at least 181.

Hamas founder killed in Israeli airstrike - Mar 22, 2004

    No correlation.

  24. 24 Stev

This is not to say that Antonyn actually used them as a source. But it is not beyond him to use such.

So let me get this straight. You’re passing judgement on Ant for something that you admit he hasn’t done? What is your evidence for this not being ‘beyond him’? Or is it just your tainted opinion?

It’s not beyond Chris to kill young children. That’s not to say he’s killed any children, but it’s not beyond him.

  25. 25 Addamo

The fact remains that Dahr Jamail is an independent reporter who is sindicated to dozens of publications and web sites around the world.

Chris’s argument is completely lame and made to divert attentino from the iseu being discussed. You’ll find that he does thi soften when a report cuts close to the Israeli bone.

When one has no arguments, one resorts to smears.

  27. 27 smiths

he does it constantly and quite effectively,
    just look at this thread,
    attack the writer,
    attack anyone who responds,
    attack antony,
stick to all straight propaganda lines,

his comments are so predictable a computer could write them

thats why i just tend to insult him, anything else would be a waste of time

  28. 28 Chris

You must have missed this actual trend showing Jamail having missed the mark:

chris always says, ‘arabs killing arabs’

but what if its not arabs killing arabs chris

AFP is reporting that the bombing of the Golden Domed Mosque “was the work of specialists” and that the “placing of explosives must have taken at least 12 hours.”

Construction Minister Jassem Mohammed Jaafar said, “Holes were dug into the mausoleum’s four main pillars and packed with explosives. Then charges were connected together and linked to another charge placed just under the dome. The wires were then linked to a detonator which was triggered at a distance.”

Clearly, the bombing was not carried out by rogue elements in the disparate Iraqi resistance. This is the work of highly-trained saboteurs and bomb-experts who were executing a precision-demolition to incite sectarian violence.

    just remember kids,
america is doing its darndest to bring democracy and freedom to those poor iraqis, and those arabs just wont stop killing each other

  31. 31 Addamo

It should also be remembered that it was the US that were “guarding” the Golden Domed Mosque at the time.

    And Chris;

“You must have missed this actual trend showing Jamail having missed the mark:”

Trends are based on statistical averages, not guaranteed outcomes. 2 contradictory events proves nothing.

  32. 32 Chris

Smiths, unless you can prove it is not Arabs killing Arabs, your speculation is just so much garbage.

Addamo, all that was used was the specific incident mentioned by Jamail. He lied. Just like you do.

  33. 33 smiths

your speculation is just so much garbage

i am not really sure what this means

and yes of course, prove it smiths,
prove to me chris that the moon isnt made of cheese

  34. 34 Addamo

    Chris,

Smiths pointed out what actually took place according to the AFP. That you refuse to put 2 and 2 together, because it is not convenient to your agenda is not anyone’s problem but yours. Evidently most onthis thread think your contributions are an annoyance.

Educate yourself for once and read abtou Occam’s Razor. This forum is ineed for adults, not petulant trolls like yourself who are determined to sabbotage any thread that shed’s light on what you refuse to question.

  35. 35 David

Unlike Chris, I was surprised to see the explicit invocation of Israeli assassinations in the West Bank used to justify attacks against the U.S. in Iraq. (I’m not talking about a general hatred and distrust which I assume everyone recognizes is part of the blowback from a pro-Israel policy.)

But I’m particularly interested in the media coverage angle: does anyone recall ANY media coverage of Muqtada al-Sadr’s claim of solidarity with the Palestinians: “Let them consider me their striking hand in Iraq whenever the need arises. As the martyr Sheikh Ahmed Yassin said, Iraq and Palestine have the same destiny.”

If there was, I missed it. Maybe, like the motivations of the 9/11 bombers, it was considered too dangerous to report.

  36. 36 Addamo

Certainyl there are many developments i nIraq which are not being widely reported in the media, becasue they signifiy the ultimate failure of the Iraq invasion.

The Americans are in for a head-on collision with the Shi’ite majority, the very forces their invasion and occupation have brought to power.

  37. 37 David

“not widely reported in the media, becasue they signifiy the ultimate failure of the Iraq invasion”

I disagree that it has anything to do with a fear of reporting failure. I suspect it has everything to do with a fear of suggesting any tie-in to what’s going on in the West Bank and Gaza.

Don’t you remember how Americans were told that 9/11 was caused by men who “envied their freedoms”? Most still believe that.

  38. 38 Chris

Using Jamail’s own example, it was shown that there is no tie-in. Now, if he would actually provide some semblance of proof rather than toss off a guess in the hopes that someone else will do the grunt work…

  39. 39 David

You mean Muqtada al-Sadr didn’t make the statement, “From here I announce my solidarity with the genuine unity announced by Hezbollah general secretary Hassan Nasrallah with the mujahideen movement Hamas. Let them consider me their striking hand in Iraq whenever the need arises. As the martyr Sheikh Ahmed Yassin said, Iraq and Palestine have the same destiny”?

No pamphlets were distributed at the scene of the Blackwater killings which declared the attack was carried out in the name of Yassin?

    Jamail is lying?

  40. 40 Chris

Jamail listed one incident as his trend starter. It was compared to the two deadliest incidents in iraq at the time. No correlation. His theory, based on the information he provided, was incorrect.

It appears he applied the blind pig theory and failed.

  41. 41 David

    You’re not following along, Chris.

It appears there are a number of incidents where factions in the Iraqi resistance invoked solidarity with the Palestinian resistance, and used it as justification for specific attacks. I’m wondering why we were never told this. It strikes me as interesting.

I’m not particularly interested in whether the “trend” is accelerating or not, just why something as inflammatory as “Iraq and Palestine have the same destiny” was not reported in our media–even if it was only a single incident, as you claim.

(Although how you can know it was a single incident totally escapes me. Are you posting from Iraq?)

  42. 42 Addamo

A trend is based on a sizeable sampe of incidents. not just 2 occurences. Jamail has been proven right on many occasions. a yer before the white phsphorous news broke out, he reported on the reports that chemical weapons had been used in Fallujah and that the US were removing large ares of topsoil from affected areas.

  43. 43 Chris

David, it is the only incident mention by Jamail. Why you are not following that is a puzzle.
