Bush has tilted strongly in favour of the realists, Washington’s influential ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, has disclosed that Bush has authorised him to open direct talks with Iran about stabilising Iraq.”
Such a move indicates that Iran is heavily active in Iraq and that the US is fearful of Iran’s growing influence. The interview with Khalilzad was in Newsweek, but has received little coverage in Australia.
Iran is one of the major beneficiaries of the Iraq invasion. So much for US brains and grunt.
