The US has praised Israel for the restraint it has demonstrated while attacking and planning to invade Gaza.
The United States praised Israel on Thursday for showing “great restraint” in the face of new rocket attacks from the Palestinian group Hamas but added that Israel also has a right to defend itself.
Israel Air Force strikes on Thursday destroyed a Hamas security headquarters and a car carrying one of the group’s top commanders. Israel had threatened a “severe” response to cross-border rocket attacks that have persisted despite a troop and settler pullout from Gaza in 2005.
Troop and settler pullout from Gaza? Yeah right.
It’s hardly surprising that the killing of 7 is regarded as restrained by a military that just concluded that the killing of 50 civilians in Afghanistan was an example of “appropriate” use of force.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai described the civilian deaths as unacceptable, but hey, what does he know? None of the civilian deaths are mentioned in the official report, and that’s good enough for the Pentagon.
General Wiggins, however, says there is no mention of civilian casualties in the report he received after the investigation into the battle.
And what reason would he have to doubt the report?
Wiggins told reporters that U.S. commanders will not order strikes on areas where intelligence shows civilians could be hurt.
He blamed the Taleban for putting Afghan civilians in harm’s way.
You see, if civilians are killed, it’s all the Taliban’s fault for putting them in the way of oncoming missiles. That other mistake was just one of those things, and besides, we didn’t mean it.
