Addicted to terrorism

There are a growing band of lunatics in the US that long for another terrorist attack on the scale of 911, just to remind the public of the dangers of the terrorist threat. The idea seems to be gaining traction among the wingnut brigade. Rick Santorum believes that another attack will remind the public of the terrorist threat they are facing. A month earlier, the chairman of the Arkansas Republican Part, Dennis Milligan, said that there needed to be more attacks on American soil for the public to realize what a wonderful job Dubya was doing to fight terror.

“At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001], and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country,” Milligan said.

Lt.-Col. Doug Delaney, chair of the war studies program at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, recently told the Toronto Star

“The key to bolstering Western resolve is another terrorist attack like 9/11 or the London transit bombings of two years ago.”

The latest installment comes from Philadelphia Daily News’ Stu Bykofsky, who has jumped on the lunatic neocon bandwagon with his latest column, telling us how he wants another 9/11 style attack to “help” America.…  You see, Bykofsky believes “we have forgotten who the enemy is,” and that nothing would help America return to it’s values more effectively than the murder of thousands of it’s citizens.

Because we have mislaid 9/11, we have endless sideshow squabbles about whether the surge is working, if we are “safer” now, whether the FBI should listen in on foreign phone calls, whether cops should detain odd-acting “flying imams,” whether those plotting alleged attacks on Fort Dix or Kennedy airport are serious threats or amateur bumblers. We bicker over the trees while the forest is ablaze.

America’s fabric is pulling apart like a cheap sweater. What would sew us back together? Another 9/11 attack.

The Golden Gate Bridge. Mount Rushmore. Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The Philadelphia subway system. The U.S. is a target-rich environment for al Qaeda.

Bykofsky is so smitten with the idea that he even chimes in with recommended targets.

So to sum up Bykofsky’s bizzaro logic, “In order to stop terrorists from killing Americans some terrorists have to kill Americans!” What is America after all, without an enemy? How could American society possibly endure the threat of peace?

It will take another attack on the homeland to quell the chattering of chipmunks and to restore America’s righteous rage and singular purpose to prevail.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen. America needs more terror or the terrorists win!

It boggles the mind to imagine there are those, like Bykofsky, who long for the mass murder of thousands of their countrymen, just so they have the opportunity to tell the rest of us, “we told you so”, and avoid further humiliation.

I suspect that Bykofsky would also argue, with a straight face of course, that the Democrats are weak on the war on terror.
