Is Israel losing its darling status?

The last few weeks haven’t been the best for Israel. A year after the British government was happily shipping bombs to Israel to use against Lebanese civilians, it appears that the policies are being re-examined.

The British government has blocked almost one third of British military exports to Israel this year, citing possible threats to regional stability and fears the equipment might facilitate human rights violations.

Not only is Britain concerned about the consequences of supplying arms to Israel, but it even recognises Israel’s propensity to perpetrate human rights violations.…  That’s gotta hurt.

This comes a week after the US declared that it would not be sending the additional aid it had pledged because it was financially strapped due to Iraq’s bottomless pit.
