Oh, you mean THAT Embassy!

The US embassy in Iraq is reported to be the largest embassy in the world. The US government has never explained why such a monstrosity is necessary or justified for a country with a population of 20 million people.

The $592 million embassy occupies a chunk of prime real estate two-thirds the size of Washington’s National Mall, with desk space for about 1,000 people behind high, blast-resistant walls. The compound is a symbol both of how much the United States has invested in Iraq and how the circumstances of its involvement are changing.

The most glaring issue is the fact that while reconstruction throughout Iraq is either going very badly or not at all, the construction that really matters to the US government is proceeding unimpeded. This underscores that the real purpose of the invasion was never about liberating the Iraqi people, but about establishing a permanent and dominating US presence in Iraq – in other words, tyranny.
