OK when we do it – a war crime when Iran does

While insipid neocons like Joe Lieberman are advocating the bombing of Iran for daring to support the Sunni insurgents,

the U.S. military has confirmed that it is arming Sunni insurgent factions to try to contain al-Qaida in Mesopotamia, RAW STORY has learned.

Apart from setting new standards for massive hypocrisy, the US have yet to produce any evidence that Iran are arming the groups that are attacking their allies in Iraq, let alone explain why they would engage in an exercise that is so self defeating. Whose fault will it be when the Sunni insurgents turn around and aim these newly provided weapons at US forces, just like the Shiite Militias are doing? Iran’s?

UPDATE 1:

Indications are that the plan is already falling apart, and for predictable reasons.

In an interview in his Baghdad office, Ali Hatem Ali Suleiman, 35, a leader of the Dulaim confederation, the largest tribal organization in Anbar, said that the Anbar Salvation Council would be dissolved because of growing internal dissatisfaction over its cooperation with U.S. soldiers and the behavior of the council’s most prominent member, Abdul Sattar Abu Risha. Suleiman called Abu Risha a “traitor” who “sells his beliefs, his religion and his people for money.”
