The Commander Guy demonstrated his support for the troops by opposing a proposal to raise military pay by 3.5 percent.
“The slightly bigger military raises are intended to reduce the gap between military and civilian pay that stands at about 3.9 percent today,” according to the report. “Under the bill, HR 1585, the pay gap would be reduced to 1.4 percent after the Jan. 1, 2012, pay increase.”
The report continues, “Bush budget officials said the administration ‘strongly opposes’ both the 3.5 percent raise for 2008 and the follow-on increases, calling extra pay increases ‘unnecessary.”
They can’t be wanting money on pay rises for the troops. That won’t leave enough to pay those poor, hard working, private military contractors now would it?
Not surprisingly, there hasn’t been a peep from Michelle Malkin or Glenn Reynolds on this subject. After all, they have better things to do, like demonize Ron Paul.
And speaking of loving the troops, what better way to do the right thing by them than subjecting them to tests that do irreparable damage.
Scientists working with the Defense Department have found evidence that a low-level exposure to sarin nerve gas — the kind experienced by more than 100,000 American troops in the Persian Gulf war of 1991 — could have caused lasting brain deficits in former service members.
Of course, forcing soldiers to be subjected to dangerous experiments is hardly new. It’s what all free and democratic countries do to their own. It must be what they mean by fighting for freedom.
