Being in Iran, and watching President George W. Bush’s speech in Prague on BBC World yesterday, one could almost want to believe the rhetoric.
If one takes away the context, and US reality around the world towards despotic regimes, his words were often meaningful and utterly true. Of course, hearing him talk about the oppressed people of Iran, while recognising that many Iranians want nothing to do with Washington or its ever-increasing “democracy” budget, he fundamentally misunderstands the ways in which the US is now viewed in this region (and beyond.)
He needs to speak to some of the Iranians I’m meeting…
