I would argue that Israel is often its own worst enemy. A fascinating article in the Economist confirms that the Jewish state’s actions are contributing to a worldwide turn away from Israel. This is positive news for those of us who believe that Israel’s current form is simply unsustainable. Occupation, oppression and racism are turning growing numbers of young Jews towards a less Israel-centric existence.
On current trends, hardline Zionists are harder to find than ever before – though the Christian Zionist movement is still strong – and Israel’s egregious behaviour against the Palestinians is having the desired effect. The future of the Jewish state is far from assured, and we certainly know where blame lies.
Well, let’s be fair. The blame lies largely with those morons who thought it was great idea to put Israel smack dab in the Middle of Palestine.
Israel’s actions suggest they have decided that alienating the international community is a necessary evil, but it remains to be seen how long Israel’s appologists can maintain their blind support and to what extremes.
