America chastised

Thomas Friedman, the supposed doyen of the New York Times and foreign affairs expert, is fond of flexible deadlines when it comes to the Iraq war.

Suffice to say, as the role of America declines across the world and Friedman is forced to understand some humility, what will it take for him to recognise that Washington is increasingly regarded as the penultimate self-interested state?

Perhaps a Chinese shake-down.
