With news that Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet has died, there is regret that he never faced an appropriate court for war crimes committed during his years in power.
Of course, if you’re Margaret Thatcher – hero to Australia’s Dear Leader, John Howard – Pinochet “brought democracy to Chile.”
For Howard, Thatcher (and Reagan) displayed “moral clarity” in their positions. After all, for Howard and his ilk, the murder of thousands of Chileans is an irrelevancy.
