“Lewis Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Richard B. Cheney and assistant to the vice president for National Security Affairs, has joined Hudson Institute as a senior advisor. Libby will focus on issues relating to the War on Terror and the future of Asia. He also will offer research guidance and will advise the institute in strategic planning.
“‘Scooter Libby brings decades of experience to Hudson Institute that will strengthen our robust research efforts. We look forward to drawing on his expertise,’ said Hudson Institute Chairman Walter P. Stern.”
Take last night’s ABC 7.30 Report story on Iran’s nuclear program. Journalist Nick Grimm produced a hackneyed story – with ominous music intact – of world concern over Iran. The piece was clearly aimed to prepare a wary public that only military action would avert the Islamic regime going nuclear. Cue the think-tank ‘advisor’:
Patrick Clawson, Washington Institute for Near East Policy: “Some defensive military measures would be very appropriate. As time unfolds this will get to be a bigger and bigger and bigger crisis. These things are much easier to solve in the early stages than they are many months down the road.”
Could journalists please actually ignore these figures and speak to people not embedded in the military-industrial complex?
