This was inevitable. Take a former speechwriter for Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, current columnist for the Australian and constant public advocate for more right-wing policies that are rejected time and time again at the ballot box and your insights are inevitably tres deep. But hey, maybe failure will be rewarded? It certainly has in his case.
Here’s Troy Bramston in today’s paper slamming #LeftTurn in a typically insider way. Thanks for the advice, Troy:
Some in Labor believe the party can win back voters lost to the Greens by advocating more progressive values. But the publication of a new book should send shudders down the spine of anybody still peddling that goal. The discordant voices on the broader political Left outside Labor’s ranks have also given up on the party and are urging a “new Left” to supplant Labor.
Left Turn: Political Essays for the New Left (MUP), edited by Antony Loewenstein and Jeff Sparrow, contains the predictable far Left claptrap railing against capitalism, praising the Occupy Wall Street movement, calling for more union strikes and industrial “combat”, recognising Australia’s inherent racism, supporting the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against Israel, and of course, attacking the “Murdoch empire”.
