Running out of access

Beijing, your web users have a problem:

The internet in China may soon run out. According to the China Internet Network Information Center, under the current allocation speed, China’s IPv4 address resources can only meet the demand of 830 more days and if no proper measures are taken by then, new Chinese netizens will not be able to gain normal access to the Internet.

I won’t do what you tell me

A new film project that sounds intriguing. Welcome to Resist Network:

Economic Apartheid is the dominant system. The Green Zone is fast becoming a global state of mind. Instability is the new norm. Walls are built from suburbia to borders, to protect those in power from the chaos they themselves have caused, to keep the displaced and the poor away.

This film begins where others have given up.

Gael Garcia Bernal scales the walls to learn from those who refuse to accept the way the world is, who are fighting for a very different vision of the future and whose very existence relies on resistance. These are the people whose actions are redefining the social issues of our time.

What happens to the man who embarks on a journey to redefine the meaning of existence for himself?

Terrorists are our friends

Farnaz Fassihi, Iranian American correspondent in Iraq for the Wall Street Journal, Democracy Now!:

I think that the fact that the violence came down is because of three reasons. It’s because of the surge, one reason. It’s also because of the Americans putting the Sunni insurgents on the payroll. They’re paying about $300 a month to former insurgents who were killing the troops a few years ago, because they’re now trying to get onboard with the American plan, and also because of the Shia ceasefire. But these things are very fragile. I mean, you could—one of you take one out of the question, and things could fall apart again. I think there was a report yesterday that assassination cells have returned to Baghdad, killing people, so…

How to ruin a country

The reality of Iraq all too easily ignored by our mainstream media (including the murder of one million people). The truth on CSPAN:

The most shocking testimony I have ever heard about the war….Today 3 Iraqi men testified, one who was Chief Investigator of the Iraqi Public Integrity Commission (likened to the CIA here) to look into corruption, one whose identity was shielded during testimony – he served as a senior adviser to the US govt in Iraq, and Professor Abbas Mehdi, the former chief of the Iraqi National Investment Commission who lives in the US now. He says that only 5% of the American money sent for projects are used for the Iraqi people, at least half goes for kickbacks, the rest goes for security. For example, the $50,000,000 spent on the electrical infrastructure in Iraq…considering most Iraqis get power for an hour a day, the money’s disappeared. In one instance some of the money went to Jordanian banks, from there to Germany and some to Pennsylvania and another state.

Jewish friends of Mahmoud

This is the kind of Judaism that continues to astound me:

A group of American rabbis welcome Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to New York in a move aimed at countering an anti-Iran protest.

Neturei Karta International (Jews United Against Zionism) is a fascinating bunch of anti-Zionists who believe it is forbidden to build a Jewish state until the Messiah arrives.

That may be a long time coming.

Whoring is cheap

How much would you expect to be paid for spruiking the wonders online of your government?

(In China, a 50-cent army, estimated to be around 300,000 “soldiers”, are busy spreading propaganda.)

More than time for a group hug

Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei:

Who are the Israelis? They are responsible for usurping houses, territory, farmlands and businesses. They are fighters at the disposal of Zionist operatives. A Muslim nation cannot remain indifferent to such people who are stooges at the service of the arch-enemies of the Muslim world.
